- Ongoing Partnership · Retainer

In your business every week.

For established businesses launching something new and growing fast. A retainer means I'm in the work with you each week - not just delivering a project. Same operational brain, applied continuously.

For who

You probably need a retainer if...

The new thing you're building isn't a one-off - it's an arm of the business that needs to keep running. A new product line that's now live and needs ongoing operations. A side venture you're growing alongside the main business. A digital offering that needs continuous management.

You don't want to project-manage another contractor. You want someone who shows up each week, knows the context, holds things across departments, and just handles it.

What it looks like

How retainers work.

Weekly capacity

10 to 20 hours per week, depending on what your business needs. We agree the structure in our first call - fixed days, ongoing availability, or hybrid.

Real ownership

I take ownership of the operational work, not just task lists. That includes coordinating other contractors, holding timelines, and making decisions you don't need to make.

Three-month minimum

Retainers run on three-month commitments because the value compounds. Continue, adjust scope, or end at the three-month mark - your call.

Investment

What it costs.

Retainers are priced at $85–100 AUD per hour depending on scope and complexity. Most retainer engagements work out to $4,000–8,000 AUD per month.

The exact rate and hours are confirmed after a discovery call where we map what you actually need versus what you think you need (often quite different).

FAQ

Frequently asked.

Can I start with a project and move to a retainer?
Yes - many clients do. We complete a defined project (Class is In, Open for Business, The Untangle), and if you want me on for the long haul afterward, we structure a retainer from there. There's no obligation, just an open door.
What kinds of work do retainers cover?
Whatever the business needs that week. Commonly: launch coordination, contractor management, ongoing systems work, content and email operations, troubleshooting, briefing other team members, project tracking. The point of a retainer is breadth - you don't have to scope each task.
Are retainers exclusive?
No. I work with multiple retainer clients simultaneously, but I cap the total so each one gets proper attention. If you need someone exclusive, that's a different (and more expensive) conversation.
Can the retainer expand or shrink month-to-month?
Within reason, yes. Most clients have busy stretches and quieter ones. We can flex hours within a 20% range without changing the agreement; bigger changes get re-scoped at the three-month mark.
